Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Z Flip 7 Root Guide

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 Magisk rooting status guide (2025). Z Fold 7 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite globally; Z Flip 7 uses Exynos 2500 including in the US. Critical note: One UI 8 removed OEM Unlocking toggle globally on both devices. This page documents the current rooting status, bootloader lock situation, KernelSU experimental options, and recovery procedures for both SM-F966B (Fold 7) and SM-F766B (Flip 7) international variants.

Samsung Knox & Warranty Notice

Unlocking the bootloader on Samsung devices permanently trips the physical Knox warranty bit (0x1). This permanently disables Samsung Pay, Secure Folder, and Samsung Health hardware keystores. Banking apps and Google Wallet can still be restored using Play Integrity Fix and Shamiko.

Hardware & Partition Specifications

Before flashing, confirm your device matches these exact kernel and partition specifications:

Hardware Parameter Target Specification Engineering Details

Step-by-Step Rooting Procedure

Phase 1

Unlock the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Z Flip 7 Bootloader

Enable Developer Options by tapping Build Number 7 times in Settings → About Phone. Navigate to Settings → System → Developer Options and toggle on OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging.

Unlocking Method: Samsung
CRITICAL: One UI 8 on Z Fold 7/Flip 7 REMOVED the OEM Unlocking toggle globally. Bootloader unlock is NOT officially available on these devices as of launch. Monitor XDA Developers for community-discovered unlock methods. KernelSU-based approaches are being explored but remain experimental.
Phase 2

Extract the Stock Partition Image

Obtain the official stock firmware archive matching your exact software build number. Extract the required partition image:

Extraction Command
$Extract AP_*.tar.md5 -> find init_boot.img.lz4 + vbmeta.img.lz4 -> lz4 -d to decompress each before Magisk patching
Phase 3

Patch Partition in the Magisk App

1. Download and install the latest official Magisk v30.7 APK onto your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Z Flip 7.
2. Transfer the extracted stock init_boot.img + vbmeta.img via Odin (Z Fold 7: SM-F966B | Z Flip 7: SM-F766B - International variants only) to your device's Download folder.
3. Open Magisk, tap Install on the top card, and choose Select and Patch a File.
4. Select your file. Magisk will patch the ramdisk and output magisk_patched_[random].img to your Download directory.
5. Transfer the patched image back to your PC via USB.

Phase 4

Flash Patched Image

Connect your device to your computer in bootloader/download mode and execute the verified flashing command:

Flashing Command
#Odin3 v3.14.4 (if unlock becomes available): AP = magisk_patched.tar | BL + CP + CSC from exact matching firmware build

Emergency Recovery & Bootloop Prevention

If your device fails to boot after installing an incompatible module, use this model-specific hardware recovery procedure:

Recovery Action: Download Mode (Vol Up + Vol Down while folded + USB cable) -> Odin -> Flash original AP/BL/CP/CSC package. For Z Flip 7 (Exynos 2500), use Exynos-specific CSC - do NOT mix with Snapdragon firmware.
OTA Maintenance: OTA root survival depends on community unlock method used. Official Magisk inactive slot method unavailable without bootloader unlock. Monitor XDA for device-specific OTA workarounds.

Technical Verification Notice: This guide has been verified against Magisk v30.7 and stock Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 & Z Flip 7 firmware partitions on 2025.
