Magisk Device-Specific Rooting Knowledgebase

Rooting procedures vary fundamentally across Android smartphone manufacturers due to proprietary bootloader locks, distinct flashing protocols (Fastboot vs Odin vs EDL), partition layouts, and hardware security fuses. Choose your brand below for tested, step-by-step installation instructions.

Why One Universal Guide Does Not Fit Every Phone

While Magisk's internal engine (magiskinit) is universal, getting the patched image onto your device requires following manufacturer-specific workflows. For example, Samsung Galaxy devices use Samsung Odin to flash full AP tarballs and trip a permanent hardware Knox fuse; Google Pixel devices use pure Fastboot commands on init_boot.img with zero hardware fuse penalties; and Xiaomi/POCO devices enforce a strict 168-hour bootloader unlocking waiting period.

Universal Safety Checklist Before Rooting Any Device

  1. Back Up All Critical Data: Unlocking the bootloader on any Android device automatically triggers a factory reset and securely wipes the user data partition (including photos, messages, and app logins).
  2. Remove Screen Lock & Google Accounts: Disable your PIN/pattern and remove Google accounts in Android Settings prior to unlocking to avoid triggering Factory Reset Protection (FRP) lockout.
  3. Ensure Battery Charge > 50%: Never flash bootloader partitions or firmware updates with low battery to prevent mid-flash power failure bricks.
  4. Match Your Exact Firmware Build Number: Never patch a boot image extracted from an older or newer firmware update than the build currently running on your device. Check your build under Settings -> About Phone -> Build Number.
