Magisk Guide is an independent website. It is not affiliated with, maintained, endorsed or sponsored by John Wu (topjohnwu) or the Magisk project, Google, the Android Open Source Project, or any phone manufacturer. "Android" is a trademark of Google LLC. Other names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the products discussed.

Risks of unlocking and rooting

• Data loss. Unlocking the bootloader erases the phone. Some steps, such as the first Magisk install on a Samsung phone, require another full wipe. Back up first.
• Warranty. Unlocking may void the manufacturer's warranty. Motorola, for example, states that once you receive an unlock code the phone is no longer covered.
• Samsung Knox. Magisk's documentation states that installing Magisk trips the Knox warranty bit, which cannot be reversed. Knox-dependent features such as Samsung Wallet and Secure Folder stop working.
• Apps may stop working. Payment, banking, streaming and some enterprise apps can refuse to run on a rooted or unlocked phone. See Play Integrity and root.
• Bootloops. Flashing the wrong image or an incompatible module can stop the phone from booting. These situations are usually recoverable, but not always.
• Security. Root access lets any app you grant it control your phone. Only grant root to apps you trust.

We don't host, build, modify or re-sign Magisk or any module. Download links point to the official release pages, mainly github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases. Verify checksums where they are published.
